New Titleist TSR1 metalwoods for moderate swing speeds

Published:

Titleist TSR1 driver, fairway wood and hybrid complete the TSR family, offering speed and launch for golfers with moderate swing speeds.

Targeting amateurs with driver swing speeds under 90mph, Titleist say the TSR1 promotes optimal launch through an ultra-lightweight design, enhanced aerodynamics and a strategically placed center of gravity (CG).

Titleist make some of the best drivers, fairway woods and hybrids in the game, and the new TSR1 metalwoods have been designed for effortless speed, distance and high launch without sacrificing forgiveness, looks or feel.

Key technology in TSR1

Ultra-Lightweight

The entire TSR1 collection has been stripped of all non-essential weight to ensure the lightest possible build without damaging performance.

Titleist have used Mitsubishi MMT SpeedMesh shafts in the full range. They are designed for players looking for an ultra-lightweight setup with maximum speed and stability.

Metal Mesh Technology (MMT) is made with lighter, thinner materials and applied to the tip section to maximize energy transfer. MMT SpeedMesh shafts have a total playing weight under 40g (woods) and 50g (hybrids) across all flexes.

Deep CG, High MOI

The CG in each Titleist TSR1 model is positioned deep, raising MOI and maximizing high launch and ball speed. The drivers feature the deepest CG in a Titleist driver, almost perfectly centered to the face. The fairways’ open hosel construction and hybrids’ wood-type profile optimize CG placement.

The Titleist TSR1 driver has a VFT face.

Multi-Plateau Variable Face Thickness

VFT technology originally debuted in TSR2, TSR3 (Speed Ring), and TSR4 drivers and is now featured in the TSR1 driver. The multi-plateau VFT face is built inward, layer by layer, to create nearly constant CT across the entire hitting surface. This results in a more forgiving clubface for off-centre strikes.

Confidence-Inspiring Shaping

Larger footprints in both Titleist TSR1 fairways and hybrids offer maximum forgiveness at impact and confidence over the ball. Updated shaping of the TSR1 driver makes it sit better at address. Aerodynamic improvements help it move faster through the air.

Titleist TSR1 uses the brand's SureFit hosel.

SureFit Hosel

The Titleist SureFit hosel uses a sleeve and a ring, which each have four settings for a total of 16 loft and lie combinations. As a result you can dial in your perfect set-up.

Drivers and fairway woods can be adjusted in increments of .75° for both the loft and lie angle. Hybrids can be adjusted in 1° increments.

The TSR1 driver is built for ultra-lightweight speed and distance. Research shows that moderate-speed players account for roughly one-third of all golfers worldwide. The TSR1 driver provides these players the launch characteristics and speed to easily gain yards on every drive.

The 460cc TSR1 is roughly 40 grams lighter than TSR2 thanks to a lighter head, 40-gram shaft and lightweight grip. Eliminating weight, improving aerodynamics and using a similar “boat tail” shape to TSR2 results in a club that can be swung faster.

Multi-Plateau Variable Face Thickness technology assists in speed retention from off-center hits. A deep CG almost perfectly centered to the face promotes higher launch and exceptional ball speed.

What Titleist say

“The TSR1 line represents a continued commitment to deliver speed to every style of player,” said Stephanie Luttrell, Titleist Director of Metalwood Development. “With the TSR1 driver, we found more speed and launch for the player through a lightweight design, better aerodynamics and our deepest CG ever in a Titleist driver.”

The lightest and highest launching of the TSR fairway woods, TSR1 will help moderate-speed players get even more speed. TSR1 fairways have a larger footprint than the TSR2 at 180cc, and are 20 grams lighter.

An open hosel construction helps create a deeper center of gravity for a higher launch and more forgiveness. TSR1 fairways also have a 15 percent higher MOI than their predecessor thanks to improved shaping and weighting.

The ideal fairway wood for golfers seeking to get the golf ball up in the air higher and faster.

What Titleist say

“In designing TSR1 fairways, high launch was the top priority,” said Josh Talge, Vice President, Titleist Golf Club Marketing. “We wanted to make the highest launching and most forgiving fairway we could. The result makes for a seamless transition from TSR1 driver through the top end of the bag.”

The Titleist TSR1 hybrid.

Built for golfers seeking distance and stability, TSR1 hybrids achieve more speed and higher MOI thanks to an enhanced profile and ultra-lightweight construction.

The larger wood-type clubhead allows for a deeper center of gravity placement and a more confidence-inspiring look at address.

Despite the larger profile, the TSR1 hybrid’s design achieves performance gains without increasing swingweight.

TSR1 hybrid shafts utilize a .335 fairway tip and are ½-inch longer than prior generations for increased speed and launch.

They join the TSR2 and TSR3 hybrids in the family.

What Titleist say

“Keeping with the increased demand for higher lofted fairways from players, TSR1 hybrids are the most ‘wood-like’ hybrids we have ever made,” said Talge.

“With a larger profile and a slightly longer shaft, TSR1 hybrids promote the speed and launch golfers may want from a fairway but with the added gapping flexibility to fit into the rest of the bag.”

The TSR1 driver, fairway and hybrid will be available for fittings and presale on February 9 and in golf shops on February 23.
