The 2031 Ryder Cup venue is set to be announced.

A local golf authority has let slip that they will be holding the 48th edition of the biennial matches.

The 2031 Ryder Cup will be held in Spain, according to reports.

Ramon Nogue, president of the Catalan Golf Federation told the Associated Press on Friday that Camiral Golf & Wellness Resort, near Barcelona, will be announced in due course.

“Next week it will be official,” he said.

A spokesman from Ryder Cup Europe said: “Any announcement in relation to future editions of the Ryder Cup will be made in due course.”

The Stadium Course at Camiral, previously known as PGA Catalunya, has hosted a number of European Tour events, including the Open de Espana and has been owned by Irish billionaire Denis O’Brien since 2008.

If the report is confirmed, it will be the second time Spain has hosted the Ryder Cup after the 1997 matches were held at Valderrama, where Europe ran out 14½-13½ winners under the stewardship of Seve Ballesteros.

This year’s tournament will take place at Bethpage, in New York, before returning to Ireland in two years’ time for the 100th anniversary edition at Adare Manor. In 2029, Hazeltine will once again play host before the 2031 Ryder Cup in Spain for what will be just the third edition on this side of the Atlantic held outside the British Isles.
