Tom Jacobs picks out his top Travelers Championship betting tips ahead of the PGA Tour Signature event.

There’s no respite at this point in the year as golf’s elite jump straight back into action following the conclusion of the US Open for the final Signature event of the 2025 PGA Tour season at the Travelers Championship.

A stellar field including Scheffler, McIlroy, Schauffele, Aberg, Morikawa, and more will make the trip 470 miles northeast from Oakmont to Cromwell, Connecticut, where another bumper $20 million prize fund is on offer.

Who has won the PGA Tour Signature events in 2025?

Scottie Scheffer pipped Tom Kim last time around in a playoff after the pair finished tied on 22-under. The win marked the World No.1’s sixth of a glittering season that would later see him secure Olympic Gold in Paris and a maiden FedEx Cup title at the Tour Championship.

Before diving into my Travelers Championship betting tips for the week, here’s everything else you need to know…

Travelers Championship betting tips

The Longshot: Andrew Novak 125/1 e/w (BetMGM, Unibet 6 Places)

Andrew Novak played all four rounds last week at Oakmont, but he was never in contention, and I am therefore not worried about any mental fatigue on his part. Instead, I just see it as another box ticked in a strong season for one of the Tour’s biggest improvers.

Novak technically landed his first PGA Tour win this season, albeit in a pairs event at the Zurich Classic, which, to be fair, shouldn’t be completely discounted given it is another Pete Dye course… In addition to his win there, though, Novak finished 2nd at the RBC Heritage, losing out in a playoff to Justin Thomas. That near miss, of course, came on another Pete Dye design, and it was also one of his three top 3 finishes outside of the Zurich win. He had a chance to win at Torrey Pines at the start of the year, and was closer to victory than the winning margin suggests at the Valero Texas Open as well.

While he has won alongside Ben Griffin this year, Novak will be desperate not to waste this incredible run of form, and despite finishing well down the leaderboard last week, he still hit his irons well, ranking 23rd in approach – a good building block.

Novak has played here twice before, finishing 46th on debut, where he shot a second-round 64, and then going on to miss the cut the following year, despite sitting 28th after round 1. We are talking about a completely different player now, though, than we were in 2022 and 2023, so we should instead focus on his win at TPC Louisiana and 2nd at Harbour Town, which should help him round another Dye design here.

Confidence should be flowing for Novak, and while some may turn their nose up at him winning a Signature Event, he’s already gone close at the Heritage, and the odds more than take this concern into account this week.

The Outsider: Sam Burns 40/1 e/w (Paddy Power, Sky Bet 6 Places)

Sam Burns won the WGC-Dell Technologies Matchplay.

I get it. He’s just thrown away a chance to win the U.S. Open, having led for two rounds, and for a good portion of Sunday, looking like the most likely winner. His eight-over-par final round was a tough watch for anyone who backed him, but there is some context to be considered.

Burns was dealt a bad hand with standing water/casual water on one hole and finding divots in the fairway, and while we can’t put the loss solely down to those, as he did obviously shoot 78, I don’t think it can be ignored either. The mental strength it takes to lead a U.S. Open is one thing, then you factor in the conditions and the tough breaks and it’s no surprise he fell away. Of course, the best closers deal with all of these things, but Burns wasn’t the only player to struggle yesterday.

Rather than focus on the negatives, I am going to consider the fact that Burns has just finished inside the top 12 for a third week in a row a positive, and he’s now on a run of 6 top 20 finishes in his last 7 starts. If he wasn’t priced as big as he is, I would probably fall down the same side as others and dismiss his chances, given the mental battle yesterday, but at 40/1, I just think he’s being overlooked.

Burns is 4/5 for made cuts at TPC River Highlands, with a best finish of 13th, but I can definitely see him leaning on this strong run of ball striking and posting his best result yet here. Burns ranked 3rd for SG Approach and 12th for SG Tee to Green last week, and that backs up a strong ball-striking performance in Canada, where he nearly won as well.

If you believe Burns is an elite player, or at least on the border of being one, you should, like me, consider the fact that the past two weeks could well make him hungrier than ever, and that’s the stance I am taking on the 5-time PGA Tour winner.

He won the Charles Schwab Challenge in 2022, the week after posting his then-best major finish at the PGA Championship, and while there is a world of difference between finishing T20 and having the chance to win a major, Burns was T10 going into the final round at Southern Hills, and was -1 at that stage. The winner finished on -5, so he would have certainly reflected on that week as a chance to win too, and then took that into his next start at won. Let’s see if he can do the same here.

Burns has had some strong finishes on Pete Dye courses in the past, notably at The American Express, where he had the chance to win in 2024, and now he can make his best run at the Travelers to date.

The Banker: Sepp Straka 30/1 e/w (Paddy Power, Sky Bet 6 Places)

Sepp Straka with the John Deere Classic trophy.

Sepp Straka has been poor in the majors this year, which is hard to ignore, but one thing to keep in mind is that almost every time he tees it up in a regular PGA Tour event, whether it’s an average field or a Signature Event, he remains competitive.

Straka has played here at TPC River Highlands six times, and has one top 10, a 23rd, and a 38th to his name. The 10th came in 2021 when he shot bookend rounds of 66 to crack the first page of the leaderboard, while last year, he shot a final round 61 to climb 27 spots to 23rd on Sunday.

That final round last year and his 10th a few years ago are clear indicators he can play this golf course well when in form, which he certainly is outside of the majors. In his three major starts this year, he has missed three cuts, in his other 14 starts, he has two wins, a 3rd, two more top 7s, and six more finishes inside the top 15. He’s only missed one non-major cut this year, and his worst finish when playing the weekend was T30. He’s hard to ignore.

The Austrian has enjoyed playing on Pete Dye golf courses this season, with a win at The American Express, a top-14 finish at both The Players and the RBC Heritage. A third visit to a Dye course this year could well reward Straka with his third win of the season, as he looks to quickly put that missed cut behind him.

He’s bounced back nicely from the two major missed cuts so far this season, finishing 13th at the Heritage the week after The Masters and 3rd at the Memorial in his next start after the PGA Championship.

Despite missing the cut, his ball-striking was still solid enough last week; he just putted really poorly, so I am not too concerned about last week’s result. While form in the U.S. Open the week before has helped others in the past, Straka may well benefit from avoiding the weekend delays last week and turning his focus to the Travelers early.
