Obviously he was bitterly disappointed about missing out on the main prize – the coveted Green Jacket – at Augusta National on Sunday night. Even so, Justin Rose still had plenty to smile and be proud about…
In finishing a highly impressive tied 5th he proved once and for all he’s major-winning material, his excellent overall display rightly seeing him shoot up eight placings from 34 to 26 in the official World Golf Rankings.
Rose has clearly come on leaps and bounds and surely it won’t be too long before he breaks into the top 20…and beyond!
Man-of-the-moment Zach Johnson started the week at World no. 56 and after his memorable – and thoroughly deserved – Augusta victory he becomes the first player from outside the World Top 50 to win the Masters since the Official World Golf Ranking started 21 years ago. His first major title enabled Johnson to power his way into 15th place.
The only change in the top 10 following the Masters mayhem saw Retief Goosen and Geoff Ogilvy switch positions, the South African edging into eighth spot after he tied 2nd, with the Aussie dropping down to no. 9.
Luke Donald, tied 10th at Augusta, stays just outside the top 10 at 11 but fellow Englishman Paul Casey, also tied 10th, moves up one place to 13.
Poor old Monty (Colin Montgomerie) paid the price for yet again missing the Masters cut by dropping six places to no. 29 while David Howell slipped three berths (to number 24) after finishing tied 44th, mainly as a result of his disastrous 3rd round 82.
Of course it goes without saying that although he missed out on yet another Green Jacket, Tiger Woods remains on top of the pile…by a country mile.
