Defending champion Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Ernie Els were among dozens of players who drove up Magnolia Lane yesterday to register for the tournament.
Since the PGA Tour swopped its dates around and moved the Bellsouth Classic in nearby Atlanta from the week before the year’s first Major, more players decided to comes to Augusta early.
Mickelson said: “It’s a real shame they moved the Bellsouth, because it was a good warm-up for Augusta.”
Plenty of Europeans also flew in yesterday, including Ian Poulter, Colin Montgomerie and Ian Woosnam.
And Tiger Woods was in a relaxed mood as he chatted to fans about his impending fatherhood.
He said: “It’s obviously going to change our lives dramatically. This year I’m looking forward to what’s going to transpire – last year I wasn’t.”
