Ian Woosnam has called the BBC Sports Personal;ity of the Year award a ‘fiasco.’

The straight-talking Welshman was gutted that his Ryder Cup team lost out on the team title to the St Helens rugby league team and that Darren Clarke came second in the individual award.

Woosie was picking up an award at the 2006 Golf Writers’ Trophy evening when he said: “Thank God we’ve won womething after that BBC fiasco.

“It was an unbelievable performance. To get 18.5 points, equal the record and win all five sessions of play for the first time ever,is the stuff of dreams. I can’t say enough about my wonderful players and the way they played.”
