Chart Hills Golf Club designed by Nick Faldo and hailed as one of the best courses in the country has come under fire from three Today’s Golfer readers.
The course, has been ranked number 5 in World Golf’s 2004 listings of top 200 courses in UK and Ireland received only 2 stars from the undercover trio.
TG reader Bruce Martin said; “But I do think £50 was too much to pay: it was very wet underfoot, so a lot of the bunkers were waterlogged; and the greens had been hollow – tined recently.”
The course is built on 20ft of clay and this seemed to be a contributing factor to its low score as the wet weather of the winter meant that the rough was very soggy. But the three players suggested that the warmer and drier weather conditions of the summer months would mean that the course would be in a better condition.
James Cornish, director of golf at the club said: “The day they played was extremely wet, the sort of conditions that would have forced us to close the course a few years ago. We’ve spent a lot on drainage, and we have a programme with the bunkers that is part-way through.”
