Lee Wsstwood’s bid to win The Socttish Open took a battering when he went into the water on the third hole of his second round earlier today.

Westwood had shot six under for his opening round and was tied for the lead with Phil Mickelson. And his playing partner Thomas Bjorn did exactly the same thing.

Bjorn had shot two under on Thursday and was hoping to climb the leaderboard.

But both Westwood and Bjorn decided to get wet. They each took their shoes and socks off and and waded into the water.

Bjorn went first and made good contact, almost too good in-fact. He sent the ball sailing over the green and left himself with a tricky chip.

Westwood went next and, with his ball sitting further down in the water, just managed to get the ball out before it hit the bank and started rolling back to his feet. Westwood looked on in horror as it looked like he would have to repeat the shot. But it stopped on a grassy bank.

Both Westwood and Bjorn made a bogey six on the hole and thanked their lucky stars that it was only a bogey and not worse. Westwood eventually finished with a round of three over par and a share of 28th. Bjorn finished with a round of one under par and also has a share of 28th place.
