The first Today’s Golfer Pairs competition at La Manga has been voted a brilliant success … and underlined by the fact that every one of our UK readers who competed have pledged to return and play again in next year ‘s event.
“We’ve had a fantastic time. The courses were in pristine condition, the organisation and hotel facilities were superb, and everyone got along as though they were old-time friends,” said Michael Horgan, of East Grinstead, West Sussex, and typified the feedback from his fellow competitors.
The event included a practice round and two rounds of better-ball competition on the famous North and South layouts, four nights’ bed and breakfast accommodation at the five-star Hyatt Regency Hotel, a welcome barbecue and final-night gala and presentation dinner, and an impressive selection of prizes donated by Callaway.
Overall winners were Claire Fensome and Alan Lindsey, of Northampton, whose prize was free entry (worth about £500 each) into next year’s event. A parallel competition for La Manga owners was won by former Manchester United star Stuart Pearson and Peter Ingham.
Other main event prizewinners were: 2nd Gary Benjamin and Diana Skeets (Andorra), 3rd Michael Horgan and Phil Harding (East Grinstead), 4th Ian Cleary and Leon Felton (Merthry Tydfil).
The event was organised on behalf of TG by Barwell Leisure. Keep a look out on this site and in the magazine for full details of next year’s event. It’s too good to miss!
