May24 Roseraring

By Andy Calton, TG Editor

Justin Rose is ‘raring to go’ a Wentworth after a five-week lay-off due to back injuries.

The chirpy 27-year-old has not played competitively since he came so close to winning The Masters at Augusta in April.

He said: “I’m in good shape and doing well. The excitement of playing again this week is going to outweigh the fact that I could be a bit rusty.”

Rose has stormed back to form over the last 12 months with a win already on this year’s European Tour schedule and is well and truly back inside the world’s top 50.

And he’s certainly not here to make up the numbers. Despite playing most of his golf in America these days, Rose has his sights set on the title. “This is a tournament on my hit list.”

Rose tees off today at 12.45 with former US Open champion Michael Campbell and Swede Robert Karlsson.

Some of the big-name pairings today include:

8am: Lee Westwood (Eng), Ian Poulter (Eng), Ernie Els (RSA)

12.35pm: Johan Edfors (Swe), Retief Goosen (RSA), Coln Montgomerie (Sco)

12.35pm: Justin Rose (Eng), Michael Campbell (NZL), Robert Karlsson (Swe)

12.55pm: Padraig Harrington (Ire), Vijay SIngh (Fij), Paul Casey (Eng)
