Oct23 Mickelson evacuated

World number two Phil Mickelson and his family is among the 250,000 people who’ve been evacuated out of the path of the California wild fires.

The wildfires raging, uncontrolled, through much of Southern California, are having a serious effect on all who live there. And people involved in golf are no exception, according to the Golf Channel.
 
Mickelson was scheduled to play in a Pro-Am in New York Monday. Before he left to return home Monday night he knew he would not be sleeping in his own bed when he got back.
 
His family had already been evacuated from its Rancho Santa Fe home near San Diego. Everybody got out safely and in time. But it’s not immediately known when the Mickelson family will be able to return or how much damage has been, or might yet be done to their house.
 
Meanwhile, the message on the answering machine of Tom Wilson was dire. Wilson said he had been evacuating his home and would return calls when he was able. He is the tournament director for next week’s Nationwide Tour Championship at the Barona Creek golf course in Lakeside.
 
When GOLF CHANNEL reached Wilson late Monday afternoon he said he didn’t know if his house was even still standing. It is located in the Rancho Bernardo of north San Diego County. And, he said, the roads into his neighborhood were all blocked.
 
“It’s not good,” he said.
 
Wilson also said the roads into and out of Barona Creek were blocked by officials. “There are fires all around the outer areas of the golf course,” he said. But as yet there is no known damage to the course itself.
 
Wilson’s dilemma Monday: He couldn’t go to work at the golf course and he couldn’t go home.
 
The unusually high Santa Ana winds are feeding the fire. And officials have no precise time or date as to when they will abate.
