Feb14 Micknewdriver

Phil Mickelson ran away with the AT+T Pebble beach pro am at the weekend, but he wasn’t using the new square FT-I driver. He chose instaed Callaway’s other new driver for 2007, the FT-5.

Mickelson averaged 285 yards off the tee and only missed one fairway in the final round. The FT-5’s refined carbon body design means 50 grams of weight is positioned around the clubs head to encourage either a draw, neutral of fade bias. A new hotter face also helps maintain ball speeds on off centre hits, meaning extra distance when shots aren’t hit from the centre of the face.

Also in Phil’s bag was a 13 degree Tour X Series three wood, a 17 degree FT-Hybrid, and a favourite set of X Tour irons. Big Phil also played the Callaway HX Tour golf ball and used an Odyssey White Hot XG No 9 flat stick on the greens.

If you want our opinion on the FT-5 and see how it compares to all the other hot drivers on the market, make sure you check out our massive drivers test in the May issue.
