County Louth Golf Course

What we say

County Louth is one of the best links golf courses in Ireland, adored by amateurs and tour pros alike.

County Louth Golf Club is situated in the historic Boyne Valley region north of Drogheda, along the mouth of the Boyne estuary.

A number of holes run alongside the Irish Sea and County Louth, otherwise known as ‘Baltray’, offers the ultimate in natural links terrain.

“Baltray is probably my favourite links course in Ireland … It’s just a great test,” says Paul McGinley. “All the holes run in different directions so you have a different exam paper on each hole.”

Baltray was founded in 1892 but it wasn’t until 1938 that Tom Simpson and Molly Gourlay redesigned the course and it gained the renown which it still enjoys today. Simpson and Gourlay routed County Louth on some of Ireland’s most natural and unspoilt links with rippling fairways mixing with towering dunes.

This setting gives rise to a splendid variety of holes that ask for solid ball-striking as well as good course management.

In 2004 and 2009 the clourse hosted the European Tour’s Irish Open and on the latter occasion it was notable for the victory by 2019 Open champion Shane Lowry… as an amateur.

One of Ireland’s classiest links and comfortably good enough to be well inside the top 50 of our Links Top 100.
