The front nine, which climbs up to an elevated heathland plateau, is a tasty appetiser for the holes alongside the legendary loch on the back nine. One hole alone sweeps you down; ‘Tappit Doon’ is a par 3 which begins with an unforgettable tee shot to a green way below. The next is even better, a par 5 by the water which is the equal of anything round the loch at the former Scottish Open venue.
