Gainsborough Golf Club – Karsten Lakes

What we say

Deep in rural Lincolnshire lies the American-style Karsten Lakes course. It’s fairly open so you can regularly let rip with the ‘big dog’ though you do need to avoid the many bunkers and water features. It’s maturing but usually it’s in pretty good nick.

The Gainsborough Golf Club was designed by Neil Coles in 1984 and redesigned in 1997, the Gainsborough boasts two 18 hole courses with challenges suitable to golfers of all abilities. The Thonock course is a traditional parkland course whilst the Karsten Lakes is an American style layout. The venue provides an excellent opportunity to play 36 holes on two contrasting styles of course. Both courses have a great reputation for the quality of presentation, in particular the quality of the greens which are playable all year round due to the good drainage infrastructure and ongoing maintenance practices that the club ensue for the good of its members and playing visitors.

  • 3 out of 5 Good course Good Days Golf But Bad Greens!!!!!!!

    By clindley

Played karsten lakes on 26th march 2011, as part of our golf society. The day was very good on the whole, good weather nice reception on arrival and good company. The lakes course its self was as expected having played it several times over the last couple of years.  Before we set out to play we were told that the greens were fast!!!! Well when we got out the greens were infact the worse i've scene and played this year, very patchy and slow, the rest of the course was in good condition and the fairways were the best (condition) i've played on this course. Would go back and play again as the course is a good challenge and the staff as ever looked after us really well. Just one thing GET THE GREENS SORTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 4 out of 5 Weekend at Gainsborough Golf Club

    By klaw

7 of us have just spent the weekend at the Ping owned Gainsborough Golf club. For £80 we have had 2 rounds of golf, Thornock Grove Course (Sat) Karsten Lakes (Sun) an evening meal which was spot on, overnight accomodation in 2 very modern on site appartments and Full English on the Sunday Morning. Both courses are pretty good. Thornock is a easy going parkland track and Karsten is a US style layout. Both courses offer a decent test with the latter being the pick of the 2. Good facilities include a driving range, well stocked Pro Shop (if Pings are your weapon of choice) and good catering. Great value for money if your looking for a weekend away.
