The Mendip Golf Club

What we say

You may quite literally be blown away at The Mendip, which stands 960ft above sea level enabling you to see across seven counties. This short but undulating downland shouldn’t be underestimated. It’s tight and tricky so no pushover.

The sumptuous Somerset scenery surrounding this well-established course makes it a special venue. The rolling terrain is subtlely reflected

in the course but after the first two holes it’s surprisingly level. Long par 4s are a mark of its challenge as well as small greens that are difficult to attack.

There are wonderful vistas – you can see seven counties and the Bristol Channel from its highest point at 960ft!

The Mendip Golf Club was originally founded in 1907, on land near the Old Great Western Railway at the village of Doulting, Somerset. A year later it moved to its current site as a nine-hole golf course.

It was designed by a member of the famous Vardon family. In 1965 the golf course was changed to 18 holes, the additional nine being designed by Frank Pennick. In 1988 the par was extended to 71 by purchase of land and the reconstruction of holes 12 to 14.
