What we say...

It’s one of the game’s fundamentals, and most of us get it wrong! Today’s Golfer reviews the training aid promising to fix your slice and eliminate that hook.

Sounds too good to be true, but that’s exactly what is on offer here from influential golf training aid experts Me and My Golf via their True Grip glove that aims to position your hands perfectly.

And before you ask – yes, it conforms to the Rules of Golf too, meaning it can take the place of your best golf glove whilst you iron out any inconsistencies with your grip. Handy, right? Let’s first find out how Me and My Golf have gone about making this fix, and if it delivers as promised.

As with all Me and My Golf products, PGA pros Piers Ward and Andy Proudman provide an accompanying QR code with every product that takes you straight to a mini-series of videos that guide you through a few simple steps to ensure you get the most from your training aid. In this case, the True Grip glove features three short videos on how to grip consistently, fix potential slice and hook issues, and grip with appropriate pressure.

The non-slip silicon grip of the True Grip glove

I was intrigued to slip into this training glove as gripping a golf club was something I assumed I’d been doing fine for 20 years, even though I was aware as many as 80% of golfers grip incorrectly. Surely, I was in the 20%? I wasn’t. Not massively far away, but enough to force some changes.

Before gripping the club though I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the glove itself. It’s obviously fairly tacky (that’s ‘grippy’ tacky), so don’t go expecting a tour-level feel, but it’s soft, snug, and most importantly feels like a golf glove as opposed to a training aid.

The three-checkpoint protocol didn’t noticeably slow down my rhythm or endanger me of slow play, it just made me systematically go through the process of aligning my top hand before addressing the ball. Running the grip down the blue four-finger channel is simple enough, and for many I expect will not reveal as many inaccuracies as the steps to come.

Aligning the True Grip glove along the blue finger channel

Step two promotes a neutral grip by ensuring you can see your first two knuckles (again highlighted by a blue silicon area) when you close off your top hand. I could see one, but my middle finger knuckle was definitely a stretch.

By rotating my hand clockwise to address this, the clubface naturally closes behind the ball which felt slightly alien even though it was only a fractional change. My (regular) miss with full irons and woods is a leaky one to the right so straight away I can see the value in making this adjustment and hopefully straightening up ball flights. Also like me, if you tend to swing across the ball and struggle with a slice off the tee, the two-knuckle tip could be a game-changer for you!

Finally, the glove has a blue triangle above the thumb which acts as a final checkpoint to ensure your grip and shoulder alignment are correct. The triangle should point at your right shoulder (for right-handers), and once in position, you can bring on your bottom hand, covering the triangle. You’re now ready to address your ball and swing away.

Gripping the club with the Me and My Golf True Grip glove

Today’s Golfer verdict

This is a simple and effective training aid that has a great deal of ecological validity with the glove able to be used during your round. With every use, you will become a little more autonomous with gripping the club correctly and I imagine after 10 rounds or so, any alterations will feel natural.

As far as low-cost training aids go that could have a genuine impact on your game, this training glove from Me and My Golf is up there with the best and it will definitely be in my bag for a good few rounds to come.
