What we say...

Golf Pride’s Reverse Taper putter grip is designed to keep your hands quiet and help you hole more putts. We test all three models to find out if the tech works.

Golf Pride is a dominant force when it comes to the best golf club grips, but have never had the same foothold when it comes to putter grips.

They hope the new Reverse Taper putter grips will change that in 2024.

Through player testing and golfer insights, Golf Pride has discovered that a common cause of players struggling with the putting stroke is an overactive lower hand.

The Golf Pride Reverse Taper Putter Grip offers new technology that stabilizes both hands during the putting stroke for a squarer face at impact – regardless of the player’s gripping style.

The design features a slimmer upper hand section and a gradually wider lower hand section to create the ‘Reverse Taper’, in addition to a soft feel and enhanced tacky texture with dimple pattern for added traction.

Reverse Taper technology helps a player to smooth out the overactive tendencies of the lower hand, ultimately allowing each hand to perform at its optimal level and enhancing performance on the greens.

There are three different models in the range:

  • Flat – features straight edges ideal for golfers who prefer a palm-to-palm grip
  • Round – very versatile
  • Pistol – a pistol kick on the back of the grip locks the heel pad of the upper hand to the putter grip

Each option is available in medium or large sizes.

Tested by club golfers

Using a SAM putting lab, Golf Pride tested a total of 364 putts, with over 21,000 variables measured. Conditions measured included face path, back swing ratio, forward swing ratio, timing, path, face position at impact, loft, face rotation, and more.

After all this testing, Golf Pride discovered Reverse Taper technology delivers a 15% squarer putter face at impact (measured in degrees) versus a parallel putter grip when comparing a zero-degree starting point (straight 12-foot putt with a putter face aimed at the target).

Chris Jones, Today’s Golfer editor – testing the Golf Pride Reverse Taper Round grip

I was one of the first golfers in the UK to get a Reverse Taper grip fitted to my putter – and I love it. After trying all the options at a launch event in Spain, I opted for the round-back with a flat front.

I love the feeling of this putter grip; it’s firm and tacky in your hands, and its width encourages you to putt with your shoulders, rather than your hands.

The British winter has limited the amount of golf I’ve played with it, but several rounds in Spain and Florida have convinced me it’s staying on my putter.

Rob McGarr, TG.com contributing editor – testing the Golf Pride Reverse Taper Pistol grip

As someone who suffered the yips on short putts for over a year, which transformed short putts from nonchalant tap-ins to stressful minefields, I was keen to give the Reverse Taper a try.

I liked the feel of the Pistol option the best and have had that on my putter – a TaylorMade Spider X – for about 10 rounds now. I absolutely love it. It fits snugly and securely in my left hand, which feels like it keeps everything stable, while my right hand stays quiet and removes any unwanted jerking during the stroke.

I’d been using a pencil-style hold for quite a while to eliminate the yips but have been moving back to a traditional hand placement recently and found the Reverse Taper has really helped with that.

Ben Miles, TG.com equipment tester – testing the Golf Pride Reverse Taper Flat grip

I putt with my palms facing each other so the Reverse Taper Flat model has been perfect. The straight edges really help me keep the face square and start the ball on line more often. I love the thickness and feel of the grip; it helps keep my hands passive and putt just by rocking my shoulders.
