What we say...

The latest evolution of Scotty Cameron Select putters introduces 10 new models with advanced face-milling technology, improved multi-material construction, and cutting-edge weight distribution.

Scotty Cameron have been at the forefront of putter innovation for years both in the amateur game and in the professional game with their prototype putters. This year is no different as they bring some of the technology that has performed so well on the world stage to your everyday amateur golfers, with the Super Select line of putters.

The brand believes this range of Scotty flatsticks can offer you what you need to improve your game on the green and that their clubs will be amongst some of the best putters in 2023.

The Super Select line of Scotty Cameron putters has seen the brand push the boundaries of performance thanks to feedback from the best in the world. With this feedback, Scotty Cameron refined designs in his San Diego County putter studio, and he created new blade and mid-mallet models.

In the development of the Super Select putters, Scotty has introduced revamped neck styles, better multi-material construction in the head, and engineered better weight distribution.

Innovative plus designs

Getting a blade to offer what a mallet can offer when putting is one of the great advancements in modern putting technology. When designing the range of ‘Plus’ models, Scotty Cameron had forgiveness and stability in mind, as he designed them with innovative, slightly wider profiles than traditional blades. This sizes the putters in between a blade and a mid-mallet such as the Squareback 2.

The multi-material construction of the putters combines milled 303 stainless steel heads and 6061 aircraft aluminum sole plates to re-position the weight from the center to the perimeter of the club for better stability.

This new design will give golfers a familiar blade-like view from address and a putter with an increased MOI to hopefully help you make more putts on the course.

Dual-milled face technology

The Super Select line has a new dual-milled face that Titleist say will take sound, feel, and feedback to a new level, combining the softness revered in previous models with feedback, consistency, and roll of Scotty’s more recent mid-milled offerings.

With a face that has been milled multiple times, it allows for a flatter face that gives a more consistent surface for the ball to make contact with.

Part of Scotty Cameron’s tour prototypes, the new face technology has brought a tour-inspired look to the Super Selects with one of their most consistent faces.

I-beam neck design

Apart from the GOLO 6 and Del Mar editions of the Super Select putters each model will feature the new ‘I-beam’ neck design that Scotty adapted from a collection of the putters that he has made for tour professionals.

The precision neck design has allowed them to reposition the weight from the center of the head out to the toe and heel of the putter for more consistency.

A Strategically placed notch on models with this neck and Scotty Cameron’s larger signature milled dots in the back of the head has allowed weight to be redistributed to the toe and heel of the club.

Performance weighting

Every head in the Super Select range has performance weighting technology which features customizable milled stainless steel weights, or in the case of the Newport and Newport 2, you get a heavier tungsten option.

The aluminum sole plate works together with these weights to allow for optimal weight distribution and creates a higher MOI to help achieve consistent balance and performance on the course.

Super Select models

The line’s flagship model with its crisp, mechanical shape is milled from 303 stainless steel with a solid face, customizable tungsten sole weights, a tri-sole design, the tour-inspired, new I-beam plumbing neck, and dual-milled face technology. A left-handed model is also available.

Verdict: Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2

If you absolutely swear your dancefloor game is best suited to traditional narrow-body blade putters, then my favorite model in 2024 has to be Scotty Cameron’s Newport 2. It’s the guy’s flagship model and in the last year, this family has been updated with a new face milling pattern, new I-Beam neck, and additional MOI performance, all of which have been inspired by the tour pros he works with.

Interestingly Cameron for this family has also developed new wider body ‘Plus’ sized Newport’s, which if you needed a second opinion, gives a great indication of where the blade market is going.

If you’re looking at investing £429 in a Cameron blade I’d seriously urge you also to check out the new models before blindly signing up for this narrow body more renowned model. As you’d expect from Cameron the impact feel, roll and craftsmanship are second to absolutely nobody.

Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2 Plus putter.

Super Select Newport 2 Plus

With a slightly wider flange than the Newport 2, the Newport 2 Plus incorporates a 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum sole plate with a precision-milled solid stainless steel face and customizable stainless steel sole weights for a new shape with increased MOI.

A left-handed model is also available.

Scotty Cameron Super Select Fastback 1.5 putter.

Super Select Fastback 1.5

With a new precision sculpted I-beam jet neck—as well as the line’s new dual-milled face technology—the Super Select Fastback 1.5 is a mid-mallet with a solid milled putter face integrated with an engineered 6061 aluminum sole plate and stainless steel sole weights.

Verdict: Scotty Cameron Super Select Fastback 1.5 putter

Scotty Cameron’s whole Super Select putter family is utterly delicious, so much so an argument could well be made to include every single model in any list of the best-performing putters of the year. The Fastback 1.5 stands out to me as it’s the mallet model that also best combines the elegance and simplicity wrapped up in Cameron’s iconic blade putters.

I say that as the putter supremo feels the need to add additional visual curved cues around the cavity back of the other two GOLO mallets in this family, where the Fastback is utterly seamless.

The Scotty Cameron Super Select Fastback 1.5 putter with a Today's Golfer Best of 2024 badge

Don’t just choose this model just because of my thinking though, the 1.5 has some toe hang so it would better suit players who don’t try and swing the putter in straight lines. Where the GOLO 6 mallet is much closer to being face-balanced and therefore a better option for straighter stroke players.

If you’re buying a Cameron putter anytime soon make sure you see the different heads side by side. I’d challenge anyone’s eye not to be drawn to the crescent-shaped design around the cavity back of the GOLO models. If you see what I see you’ll start wondering why the curved line is there and ultimately find it a little distracting. Where the super simple Fastback 1.5 is utterly clean and unfussy, hence why it features among my five top mallet putters of 2024.

Scotty Cameron Super Select GOLO 6.5 putter.

What Scotty Cameron says about them

With the new Super Select putters, the name just fits. I’ve been creating putters for a long time, and after each line rolls out and gets played, new ideas emerge. There’s always a better way. I try to make all the refinements I can, to bring more performance to players, to give them more confidence, and, in the end, hopefully, more success.

“Key to the 2023 Super Select family are the new ‘Plus’ models, which I introduced on Tour last year, then crafted into a few limited-release models to really showcase this new higher-MOI blade design. Now, we have three new ‘Plus’ options in a few of our most popular designs. Additionally, I’ve brought back the GOLO name and shape in a new size.

“Familiar models like our Newport, Newport 2, Squareback 2, Fastback 1.5, and Del Mar all have our new dual-milling for a great feel off the face that combines the feel of a deep mill with the consistency across the face of mid-mill.

“Inspired by putters made for tour professionals, I have introduced new I-beam necks and various cosmetic upgrades to the finish and graphics. I’ve tried in every way to make these Super Select putters live up to their name.”
