What we say...

Payntr’s Eighty Seven SC combines ultra-lightweight comfort, serious traction, and standout style in one of the best spiked golf shoes we’ve tested. Here’s how it performed on the course.

Finding the best golf shoes for you with the right balance between comfort, performance, and style can be a challenge, but Payntr may have cracked the code with this one. The Payntr Eighty Seven SC is a premium spiked golf shoe created through a collaboration between Payntr Golf and former World No.1 Jason Day.

Named after Day’s birth year and lucky number, the “87” is woven into the design with 87 perforations for added breathability. Designed with direct input from Day, the Eighty Seven SC blends classic styling with modern performance, offering a lightweight Clarino microfiber upper and a sleek, athletic silhouette.

Beneath the surface, the Eighty Seven SC is packed with serious tech. It features a full-length Carbitex carbon fiber propulsion plate to help golfers better harness ground reaction forces, alongside a waterproof and breathable membrane for all-weather play. Underfoot, the PMX Nitro+ foam midsole delivers responsive cushioning, combining comfort and stability in a shoe that looks as good as it performs.

Pros

  • Ultra-lightweight and incredibly soft underfoot
  • Best-in-class styling with a sleek, premium design
  • Outstanding traction and stability on all surfaces
  • Highly breathable yet fully waterproof
  • Secure, locked-in athletic fit

Cons

  • Soft upper creases easily with use
  • Sock liner collects debris and needs extra cleaning attention

Straight out of the box, this shoe makes an instant impression. It’s super clean, lightweight, and arguably one of the softest spiked golf shoes I’ve worn. The soft white Clarino microfiber upper paired with subtle gold accents gives it a premium, modern look that stands out for all the right reasons, whether you’re wearing shorts, trousers, or joggers the 87 SC is the perfect partner. If you’re not too keen on the spiked model, they also offer one of the best spikeless models, the Matchday SC.

At first glance, I did notice the upper is prone to creasing, which is a small frustration, but honestly, what soft golf shoe doesn’t crease a little? Thanks to the Clarino material, it’s easy to wipe clean and keeps its sharp look with minimal effort. Sure, the inner sock catches a bit of grass and dirt, but it’s a small price to pay for the soft, secure fit you get in return.

Well, enough about that… you came here for the full review, so let’s get into all this further down!

Payntr Eighty Seven SC Golf Shoes

Comfort: 4.5/5

The Payntr Eighty Seven SC is arguably setting a new standard for comfort in spiked golf shoes. Featuring PMX Nitro+ Foam in the midsole, the cushioning feels soft and responsive underfoot without sacrificing ground connection. The dual-density PMX insole adds another layer of comfort and breathability, making it easy to walk multiple rounds without foot fatigue. Despite being fully waterproof the shoe also offers excellent airflow, helping to keep your feet cool and dry even in warm conditions. The low-profile heel design enhances ground feel, and although it took a round or two to adjust, I quickly felt back at home.

Payntr Eighty Seven SC Spiked Sole

Performance: 4.5/5

Performance is a real highlight of the Eighty Seven SC. The spiked TPU outsole, blended with softer rubber traction nubs, offers a perfect balance of secure grip and natural movement. Whether swinging from dry fairways, wet rough, or walking up slopes, the stability is fantastic. Payntr’s 360° WRAP Fit Technology creates a locked-in feel without pressure points, giving a consistent, athletic fit that boosts confidence throughout the swing. Lightweight, secure, and ultra-stable it really is hard to fault the on-course performance of this shoe.

Durability: 4/5

The soft Clarino upper creases much quicker than most leather alternatives, but it remains impressively resilient and easy to wipe clean after a round. The PMX Nitro+ midsole and TPU outsole have held up very well through repeated wear, showing no major signs of breakdown. While clearing debris from the sock liner can be an annoying extra step after rounds, structurally, the shoe feels built to last when properly maintained.

Style & Design: 5/5

In terms of style, the Eighty Seven SC stands out. The soft white upper and gold detailing create a stunning premium aesthetic that looks great whether you’re pairing them with shorts in summer or trousers in cooler weather. The clean lacing system and slim, athletic silhouette reflect modern golf style trends without overdoing it. The low-profile design enhances the sleek look and gives the shoe a serious “tour-level” vibe right out of the box.

Technology & Features: 4.5/5

Payntr has packed the Eighty Seven SC with meaningful technology that genuinely makes a difference on the course. The PMX Nitro+ foam midsole keeps the shoe feeling lively and energized throughout your round, while the spiked TPU outsole and rubber traction elements maximize stability without feeling stiff. The breathable waterproof membrane provides excellent protection without making the shoe hot or heavy, and even the internal 360° WRAP Fit system plays a key role in delivering that athletic, secure fit golfers want from their footwear. It’s easy to get lost in all the tech, but I genuinely mean it when I say this package significantly enhances both the comfort and performance of the shoe.

Final Verdict: 22.5/25

The Payntr Eighty Seven SC is an outstanding choice for any golfer looking for lightweight, high-performance spiked footwear without compromising on comfort or style. It blends tour-quality traction with the underfoot softness usually reserved for spikeless designs. Although minor points like upper creasing and the sock liner catching debris could use small improvements, they hardly overshadow the overall package. If you want a golf shoe that looks incredible, feels weightless, and performs under pressure, the Payntr Eighty Seven SC deserves a place at the very top of your list.
