What’s in the bag of multiple DP World Tour Champion and Ryder Cup player Thorbjorn Olesen?

Thorbjorn Olesen is a TaylorMade staff player and his bag is made of the brand’s latest clubs, including the Qi10 LS driver – one of the best drivers in 2024.

Today's Golfer What's In The Bag is brought to you in association with Callaway Chrome Tour and Chrome Tour X golf balls.

After the 2018 Ryder Cup Olesen had a hard time off the course, as he was accused of sexual assault, being drunk on an aircraft, and common assault after an alleged incident on a British Airways flight in July 2019. He was cleared of all charges in December 2021 and has quickly gone about rebuilding his career.

Since the dropped charges the Dane has picked up three DP World Tour titles at the 2022 British Masters, the 2023 Thailand Classic, and the 2024 Ras Al Khaimah Championship in the UAE. This victory has moved him from 85th to 57th in the OWGR which is his highest ranking position since 2019.

Thorbjorn has played on golf’s big stage for many years and stepped into the professional rankings in 2008 competing on the Nordic league in 2009 and graduating to the Challenge Tour on his first attempt.

He followed this with a successive promotion up to the DP World Tour, gaining his full playing rights for the 2011 season. Olesen went on to win his first DP World Tour title the following year at the Sicilian Open in 2012.

Thorbjorn won the Rolex Series Italian Open back in 2018 which bagged him just over €1 million and a spot on the successful 2018 European Ryder Cup team that blew aside the USA in France at Le Golf National by seven points.

A Ryder Cup in which every member of the European team delivered a point, with Olesen’s coming in the final day singles matches, as he beat Jordan Spieth 5&4 putting a well-deserved point on the board for the Dane.

Thorbjorn earned his PGA Tour card via the 2023 DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai standings and will play a mixed schedule on both tours for the 2024 season.

Olesen has used TaylorMade clubs for much of his career and has now officially signed as one of the brand’s staff players.

Alongside the club sponsor, he has brought on board new apparel partner Galvin Green over a decade on from when he previously wore them on tour between 2009 and 2012.

I’m proud to be associated with TaylorMade and I look forward to the future together.”

“Thorbjørn has chosen to use TaylorMade equipment for the majority of his successes in world golf which include a winning Ryder Cup team appearance and a Rolex Series win,” said Adrian Rietveld, TaylorMade Senior Tour Manager. “We appreciate that a player of his standard has exclusively chosen to use 14 TaylorMade clubs and a TP5x golf ball as he continues to compete at the highest level of the professional game.

“Thorbjørn is a superb golfer with a bright future and we look forward to supporting his undeniable potential along with his wonderful family and team around him.”
