July6 standrewsmarathon

Four avid golfers recently conducted a St Andrews golfing marathon – the four-ball played all ten of the Home of Golf’s courses within 24 hours.

The dedicated golfers – Graeme Dawson,  Golf and Leisure Sales Manager at Fairmont St Andrews, Alasdair Love and Scott Finlayson from Scotland for Golf and Gary Davidson (Ladies Golf Union (LGU)) – played 171 holes, 61,000 yards and a par of 669.  Each player carried their own bag, walked each course and finished each hole.

It was a great effort by the quartet but by Graeme in particular. Graeme has unilateral congenital below elbow deficiency which means he was born without a left arm from below the elbow.  He completed the entire challenge playing one handed and quipped at the end “my right arm is remarkably the only part of me that isn’t hurting.”

They finished on the New course 53 minutes ahead of schedule.  And the day wasn’t without its excitement – Gary was inches short of a hole in one on the 5th on the Torrance course while Alasdair  was level par on the Old Course and Gary Davidson was one over par on the Julibee.

The four-ball, raised over £4000 for their nominated charities HomeStart UK, Sports Aid, Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland and Break Through Breast Cancer.  Fairmont Banff Springs (Alberta, Canada) supported the team with a four night break with golf as a prize to encourage even more sponsorship.
