Top event set for St Mellion

The Nicklaus Course at St Mellion International has proved itself a serious test of ability and endurance for pro’s and hackers alike over the years.

And now, following an extensive £20m refurbishment St Mellion International Resort, is fully ready to host a major European Tour event once again, and will stage the prestigious English Open from 2011 to 2015.

For the past 12 years, apart from a one year break due to renovations, the course that Jack built has hosted the Parman Cup, formerly known as the St Mellion International Amateur Trophy. The tournament attracts leading amateur golfers from across the UK and Europe.

Many amateurs regard competing at St Mellion as a major step toward fulfilling their goal of achieving European Tour status while the superb venue is one of the shining stars of 2-FORE!-1 GOLF, offering half-price golf at certain times of the year (provided you’ve got a 2-FORE!-1 voucher).

Paul Casey and Simon Dyson in 1999 and Ross McGowan in 2003 all cut their teeth on the Golden Bear’s nugget in Cornwall.

The Parman Cup is the realisation of a dream for St Mellion member and local golfing benefactor Robin Reip, to encourage local amateurs in the South West to pit their abilities against the very best amateur golfers in the UK.

“It is very heart warming for myself and my family to see the way in which the Parman Cup had developed.

“In particular, the recent formal confirmation from The Royal and Ancient at St Andrews, that our event has been awarded the status of inclusion in the World Amateur Ranking list is a fantastic acknowledgement and a boost to our enthusiasm.”

The Parman Cup is a 72-hole tournament and takes place on 13th – 15th July 2010.

The top 40 players and ties from Rounds 1 and 2 play 36 holes on the final day.

The winner lifts the coveted Parman Cup trophy and a £500 first prize, and all competitors gain a taste of the pressure faced by Tour pro’s.
