Shearer stars at Matfen charity event

Northumberland’s popular 2-FORE!-1 venue Matfen Hall saw football legend Alan Shearer tee off the annual Prince’s Trust Benfield Golf Tournament.
The star-studded event, which is one of the most important regional fundraisers in the youth charity’s calendar, saw regional celebrities and businesses turned out to support disadvantaged youngsters across the North East. The event was generously sponsored by The Benfield Motor Group.
Ex-Newcastle United legends John Beresford, Sunderland AFC legend Paul Bracewell and World Cup winner Jack Charlton all attended to raise awareness about the youth charity’s valuable work.
Over 100 guests enjoyed full access to Matfen’s 300 acres of mature parkland, a champagne reception and trophy presentation.
Money raised by the day will go towards running The Prince’s Trust’s programmes in the North East, giving disadvantaged young people the qualifications and experience to help them get a job.
Alan Shearer said: “I’m delighted to support this event. Young people are the future of the North East and it is vital we give them the support they need to reach their potential.
“I’ve been a supporter of the Prince’s Trust for a long time and I have seen the great work they are doing in the region. It’s fantastic to see so many businesses from the region supporting such a worthy cause at the same time as enjoying a round of golf.”
David Beavis Regional Director for The Prince’s Trust said: “Fundraising activities like our Benfield golf day help us to continue to help local young people and their communities. Rapidly rising unemployment in the North East means that our work supporting disadvantaged young people is needed now more than ever.”
Matfen Hall belongs to 2-FORE!-1 Golf and offers half-price green fees (provided you’ve got a 2-FORE!-1 voucher!) throughout the week, subject to availability.
