Dorset club beating the recession

With golf clubs up and down the country reporting diminishing memberships it’s refreshing to hear of one that’s bucking the trend.
Dudsbury Golf Club in Ferndown, near Bournemouth and Poole had 250 members four years ago before it was sold. Now it boasts 660 members, each paying £936 a year for full membership and £705 for 5-day ones.
Current owners David and Beate Braban put the phenomenon down to all the improvements they have made. “It’s a much better championship course now, with the benefit of a new irrigation system and new undercover driving range which was opened by Peter Alliss”, says David.
He added: “And the award winning restaurant is also open to the general public. Furthermore we are investing in a new 20 bed hotel and spa currently under construction which will be a tremendous addition to the clubhouse facilities.”
