New Egypt course set to open

El Ein Bay, a resort style golf course designed by Thomson Perrett & Lobb – the international practice founded by five times Open Champion Peter Thomson with partners Ross Perrett and Tim Lobb – is on target to open for play in Spring 2011.

Incorporating a large practice facility, the 6,100-metre golf course is conveniently situated just 122km from Cairo and will initially see nine holes open for play in Spring of next year, followed by a further nine holes in 2012.

Over recent months, Thomson Perrett & Lobb (TPL) has been finalising the detailing work to a significant number of holes on the par-72 layout, whichsits within a 237 acre plot of land in the heart of El Ein El Sukhna Beach Resort, a first-class development designed as a weekend retreat for Egyptians and a leisure destination for visitors from overseas.

Tim Lobb, Principle of TPL, said: “It is always exciting to be part of a large development in a ‘new’ golf market, and Egypt is rapidly emerging as a genuine alternative to the traditional golf destinations of Spain and Portugal.

“At El Ein Bay we have created a golfer’s golf course which offers a challenge for all levels of player without being too daunting. It was always our ambition to design a course that allowed visitors and residents a friendly environment in which to play golf, with an emphasis on delivering a memorable, positive experience that will encourage them to return.”

The El Ein Bay Beach Resort is focused on merging a modern sense of convenience and comfort with the beautiful natural coastline.

The resort sits on the Red Sea, one of the warmest in the world, and the beautiful all-year-round climate allows for the development to be surrounded with healthy greenery as well as maintaining the golf course in prime condition.
