Portugal’s new Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort golf course – designed by the late great Seve Ballesteros – will open to the public on January 2nd.
However, the clubhouse will open on November 1st while the course will start operating as of that date on a soft opening basis.
The 18 hole course occupies a total área of 160 acres and as well as the impressive layout, Royal Obidos boasts panoramic views of the Óbidos lagoon, the Atlantic Ocean and quality year-round golf just north of the capital Lisbon.
The course is being marketed mainly to Portuguese and Northern European golfers, more specifically to Scandinavia, including Finland, and to Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Great Britain and Ireland and the Benelux countries. Spain and France are also considered preferential markets.
According to Eduardo Johnston da Silva, the Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort golf director, agreements have been signed with about 500 international golf operators and national DMC’s.
Eduardo stresses that “as Royal Óbidos is a championship course we will be able to receive all kinds of amateur and professional tournaments including any organised by the European Tour”.
