Second Trump course plans revealed for Aberdeen

Just seven months after the launch of Donald Trump’s controversial championship links golf course in Aberdeen, preliminary plans have now been submitted for a second golf course at Menie Estate.

Named “The Mary MacLeod Course” after Trump’s Scottish born mother, the second course occupies several hundred acres and forms part of the £750 million resort located along the dramatic North-east coast of Aberdeenshire.

The first stage of the detailed application process with Aberdeenshire Council has now begun with the submission of indicative plans for the new course to the southern side of the site.

Designed by Dr Martin Hawtree, the eighteen hole course will complement the first and provide even greater capacity for golfers, tournaments and events at the estate.

Mr Trump, who will be visiting the north east of Scotland in April to open the second season of his championship links course said:  “Once again Martin Hawtree’s design is genius – we have the greatest piece of links land in the world and the unprecedented demand to play our championship course has accelerated our plans to build the second course.”

Sarah Malone, Executive Vice President for Trump International Golf Links, Scotland stated: “Our plans for the second golf course are moving forward rapidly and we’re delighted to reveal the indicative layout.

“We are more committed than ever to creating the greatest golf destination in the world.  Following the launch of our championship course last year, Aberdeenshire is now considered a must visit destination for golf.  The addition of a second course will further strengthen this.”

Commenting on the second course, Martin Hawtree said: “I am excited at the opportunity of developing a second course for Mr Trump.  At the centre there will be an outstanding Par 72 golf course, ranging between 5,500- 7,500 yards – so fit for all tastes and calibres – situated on land with an extraordinary richness of landscape and topography; but every inch a seaside links course.

“The special and subtle challenge for me is to ensure that it sits comfortably beside its majestic neighbour, neither outshone by the existing course nor making any attempt to mimic or rival those Leviathan qualities.”
