2-FORE!-1 Best of Britain: Sussex
Published: Last updated:
Sussex is a great golfing county with many outstanding coastal and inland layouts. Fortunately many belong to 2-FORE!-1 Golf and here are just some of the very best on offer…
*Royal Ashdown Forest (West course) – Sits in the shadows of the majestic Old Course but is a classy heathland layout in its own right. The West started out as a nine holer in 1889 but was transformed to 18 holes in 1932.
*Brighton & Hove – This wonderful nine holer is the oldest course in Sussex and celebrated its 125th anniversary last year. The downland course is always in excellent shape – the exceptional natural drainage owing to its lofty location high on the Sussex Downs, means it is in fact only closed for snow! Although a nine holer you can comfortably and enjoyably play 18 – there are different tees as you can play from the whites on the front nine and the black tips on the reverse nine.
*East Brighton – Stunning par-72 fast-draining downland layout with top views – from the 12th tee, the highest point on the course, you’ll be knocked out by the spectacular vistas of the English Channel.
*Chartham Park – top 20-years-old Neil Coles parkland layout with sensational North Downs views. A must play
*Tilgate Forest – A great all-round golf complex and you’ll particularly be impressed by the challenging par-72 course with its combination of tree-lined fairways, tight doglegs and well-guarded greens.
*Mannings Heath(Kingfisher course) – Pictured: one of the best golf venues in the region and the Kingfisher course is a fine foil for the neighbouring, members only Waterfall track
