Kaymer aims to tame Blue Monster with new R11 driver

World number one Martin Kaymer has put TaylorMade’s new R11 driver into play for this week’s WGC event at the TPC Blue Monster in Florida.

The classy German, who had been using TaylorMade’s R9 SuperTri, has switched into the new product that is even more adjustable than its predecessor, as he bids for another career win at Doral.

Kaymer, playing with Luke Donald and Lee Westwood in the first round, started sensationally with three birdies in the opening three holes before picking up two more at the fifth and the eighth. When the storms set in, he was on five-under-par through 10, just two shots adrift of overnight leader Hunter Mahan.

The R11 driver features TaylorMade’s newly-engineered Adjustable Sole Plate technology which allows golfers to alter the face angle and loft of the club independently from each other. The new driver also features TaylorMade’s Movable Weight Technology which allows golfers to alter the weights in the head to promote a draw or a fade.

Kaymer had the R11 driver set up with 9.0˚ of loft and with the ASP technology in a Neutral setting. He also had a 3g heel weight and a 2g toe weight in the head and used a Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki shaft.

He also used a TaylorMade R9 fairway wood, Rescue 11 hybrid, RAC MB TP irons and xFT wedges.
