Scotty Cameron releases Limited Edition Black Series Putters

By , Golf Equipment Writer. Sometimes good, always sensational.

Limited Edition models always receive high demand, but Scotty Cameron putters are on another level entirely. The new Phantom Black Series release will be no different

We’ve already seen something different from Scotty Cameron this year, with the all-new Soft Carbon Steel insert being used in the returning, iconic name of the Studio Style series for its 20th anniversary. But just because Titleist are celebrating and innovating with one of the best putters in the game, it doesn’t mean the high-tech, high-performance line-up of the Phantom series has been forgotten.

Case in point, there’s a stunningly beautiful set of Phantoms coming to market in the form of the Black Series, and it’s one you don’t want to miss out on.

Four models are offered in the Scotty Cameron Phantom Series

“With the Phantom Black putters, we’ve created new models based on the prototype Phantom designs we developed for tour players. For example, the doublebend shaft used on the Phantom Black 7 was crafted specifically for a player looking to emulate the way a plumbing neck provides alignment, and the Phantom Black 9.2R is a completely new model with a custom plumbing neck and rounded contours.

“Each Phantom Black putter is a response to a tour player’s request. From the Tour Black finish to new sight line configurations and neck designs, we’re excited to offer these tour-inspired models to dedicated golfers looking for a tour-like mallet putter.”
Austie Rollinson, Titleist Senior Director of Putter R&D

As spoken about by the Putting Director himself, the new Phantom Black Series isn’t just a refinish to the 2024 mainline release.

Work has been put into not only choosing the best head models for this introduction, but also in providing the correct options for neck design, alignment aids, modern balance and weighting, and face milling to make this a compact, yet complete release.

Craftsmanship and Technology

One of the main stories that the Phantom Series has been linked with in the past has been the modern design philosophy, not just the inspirational looks.

The golfer of today is looking for not only a product that looks comfortable and stylish to their eye, but also for one that performs and conforms with the latest concepts in the putting world, that being largely one of stability.

The Phantom line of putters is where Scotty Cameron gets to tinker with different materials, such as 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum, and custom internal weighting to produce exceptionally high MOI (Moment of Inertia) creations, all engineered to maximize your forgiveness on off-center strokes.

High forgiveness is not just for the amateur golfer, however, as seen by the likes of Justin Thomas making effective use of his Phantom 5.5 for many years now (including his most recent Major victory).

Having better resistance to twisting on the mishits, the main purpose of the raised MOI, is incredible for producing positive results for confidence, just as much as producing positive roll and direction on the golf ball itself.

Performance is further elevated through the use of the Chain Link face milling pattern, brought across from the new Studio Style putters. The unique visual design is built not only around creating soft feedback, where it’s utilized across the whole face, but to better initiate roll and help control speed at impact.
