American waterproofs spring a leak!

By Ryder Cup 2010

The American players have ditched their official team waterproof trousers…because they’re not waterproof!

Players complained after play was suspended due to heavy rain on the first day of the Ryder Cup that the rain water had gone straight through the garments, leaving them wet underneath.

As a result, USA team officials quickly rushed to purchase replacement waterproof trousers from the Ryder Cup merchandise tent, all of different colours and styles.

“We were disappointed with the performance of them, so we just fixed it,” said the American Captain Corey Pavin. “They were not doing what we wanted them to do so we went out and bought some more waterproofs.”

ProQuip, the specialist Scottish weatherwear brand that is the Preferred Supplier to the European Ryder Cup Team, was approached by USA team officials during the suspension of play on the first morning.

Respected coach and Sky Sports pundit Butch Harmon had already criticised the American’s matching waterproof outfits live on air, which had the names of the players on the back and two large white stripes on the leg and arms.

Play was suspended at 9.47am on the first day’s play after heavy rain waterlogged the course.
