Lee Westwood was crowned European Number One after winning the inaugural Race to Dubai with a breath-taking victory in the Dubai World Championship.

A brilliant final round course record 64 over the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates capped a magnificent season and lifted him to a career-equalling high of fourth in the Official World Golf Ranking. Victory earned him the €830,675 and a further €996,810 for topping The Race to Dubai Bonus Pool, taking his season’s earnings to a record €4,237,762. Became the eighth Englishman to have won the Harry Vardon Trophy on two occasions or more, having previously won the money list in 2000, and the 18th player overall.

Also won the Portugal Masters, ending a run of three play-off defeats, two near misses in Majors and an amazing 26 top-tens since his previous victory in 2007.That title took him past Mark James and second only to Nick Faldo in the list of England’s most prolific champions.

The Ryder Cup is in his blood and he set a Ryder Cup record at Valhalla in 2008 when he took his unbeaten run to 12 matches on the opening day to equal Arnold Palmer’s benchmark. Also delivered four points out of five at The K Club in 2006 to add to his four and a half points out of five at Oakland Hills two years earlier. Married Laurae Coltart, sister of another Ryder Cup player, Andrew, in January 1999. Talented sportsman at school, played rugby, cricket and soccer. Is a loyal supporter of Nottingham Forest FC.
