Hole thirteen

How it plays: Medinah’s signature hole is arguably its toughest, the sloping green guarded by three bunkers. If you have the honour, anything on the green is good.
Local knowledge: Lake Kadijah, which occupies much of the hole, is known for the capricious breezes that strafe it. Players must take care in selecting the right club.
Michael J. Scully, PGA Director of Golf, Medinah Country Club: “Known over the years as Medinah’s signature hole, the green on thirteen is now guarded by three bunkers, and slopes from right-to-left. The club choice will be the challenge as players contend with the winds off Lake Kadijah. Being the longest par-3 on the course, and with the challenge of the wind, this may be where the matches turn on Sunday. “
