Jim Fuyrk – Player Bio

By Jake O'Reilly

Jim Furyk will be one of America’s most experienced players at Medinah, and it is just as well he is, or he may have missed out on a captain’s pick altogether.

His lack of form comes as a touch of a surprise if you look back at his season pre-2010 Ryder Cup. After going more than two seasons winless, he won a career-best three tournaments on the PGA Tour, including The Transitions Championship, the Verizon Heritage, and the season-ending Tour Championship. The wins were enough to earn the 42-year-old the 2010 FedEx Cup and both the PGA Player of the Year and PGA Tour Player of the Year awards for the first time.

However, since then his form has plummeted, with 10 missed cuts and only three top-fives. Having said that one of those was at the 2012 U.S. Open when he finished fourth having led after 54 holes, and another was a T2 at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

He has also managed to make the cuts in all of the 2012 majors, finishing 11th at Augusta, 4th at Olympic Club, 34th at Royal Lytham and St. Annes and 42nd at Kiawah Island.

However there are many who believe that his overall form, combined with his poor Ryder Cup record of W8-L-15-H4, means that Fuyrk should have been left out in favour of Rickie Fowler or Hunter Mahan.

Davis Love III will be hoping his friend comes through for him with some vital points around Medinah.
