Muirfield Hole 04
Published: Last updated:
Par 3, 229 yards
The vast acreage of wispy grasses that characterise Muirfield are in evidence as you play across them on this demanding par 3.
As the wind combs across, sending waves through the grass, it gives a subliminal hint that a good strike and accuracy are both essential with a mid to long iron.
The tee is elevated, as is the plateau green, making it visible like an island in the distance.
Danger lurks all around here, from the two bunkers short right, to another one kissing the edge of the green on the left.
You do have a putting surface that is 40 yards deep, but chipping from the grass hollows that surround it is never straightforward.
It is, though, better to be long than in sand short right.
This is the middle hole of the three-hole section which plays in the same direction – the longest such stretch at the distinguished home of the Honourable Company.
