Chipping: You hit down, the ball goes up!

“Golfzilla, thanks for mixing things up with a chipping vid. The outcome of a good chip can almost be determined before you make your stroke, by the quality of your set set up.

“In this case a good set up will encourage the correct angle of attack of the clubhead on the ball, ‘pinching’ it correctly.

“You need to narrow your stance where the feet are about a clubhead’s width apart and ‘open’ (aiming left), settle your weight into your left knee with the ball central and shaft leaning slightly toward the target.

“This set up will encourage the clubhead to strike down ‘squeezing’ the ball into the turf a little, the loft on the club will do the rest.

“Keep your wrists fairly firm through the stroke avoiding trying to scoop or lift the ball, remember YOU HIT DOWN-IT GOES UP!”
