Free golf lessons on offer
Last updated:
Active Luton is offering thirty local people the chance to have golf lessons for six weeks… absolutely free!
The lessons will take place at Stockwood Park Golf Centre and are funded by the English Golf Union (EGU) and English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA).
The lessons are designed for adults and juniors in the hope they will encourage more people to take up the sport.
Lessons at the centre commence from 4th February 2011 and will run once a week for six weeks.
To register your interest contact the Pro Shop on 01582 413704. The places will be allocated at random and will only be available to complete beginners.
Graeme Kent, Marketing Manager from Active Luton, was delighted when the funding was agreed. “We are enormously proud of the golf facilities at Stockwood Park. It is a challenging and exciting course, with a range of facilities for every age and ability.
“We hope that these free lessons will encourage local people to have a go at golf and maybe continue to enjoy the sport in future.”
The annual £600 grant from the EGU and the EWGA is available to those clubs which have been awarded ‘GolfMark’, the national scheme which identifies and recognises junior and beginner friendly golf facilities.
Participating golf clubs have to allocate part of the grant to provide free or discounted golf coaching sessions for adult beginners, while spending is also encouraged on juniors, women and girl sessions, black and minority ethnic, and disability groups.
Clubs are actively encouraged to look at ways of continuing players’ involvement in the game through further discounted lessons, packages and offers.
