Fantasy League: BMW Championship preview
Last updated:
We are back on the PGA Tour for the Today’s Golfer Fantasy League event this week with the third of the four FedEx Cup Playoff events, the BMW Championship.
The leading 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings have advanced to this stage meaning there’s a star-studded field to choose from. All the players should be raring to go after a week off and they all know that two good weeks could pocket them $10 million.
The tournament returns to the Dubsdread Course at Cog Hill G&CC for the 20th time since 1991 – the only expection being 2008. The course was being renovated by Rees Jones that year with the intention of attracting a US Open.
The result is that the course now plays very tough, ranking 4th most challenging for greens in regulation and 16th for driving accuracy on the PGA Tour last year. Keeping the ball in play is paramount so favour accurate guys and keep an eye on good scramblers.
TG’s six-man Fantasy League team for the BMW Championship is:
Luke Donald, $4.5m
The world number one has 19 top 10s in his last 24 starts from last year’s Tour Championship, including two wins. He finished T3 at the Deutsche Bank Championship and was T10 here in 2009.
Matt Kuchar, $3.6m
He isn’t showing his usual red-hot form but has been solid recently, including a runner-up finish at The Barclays, and has top 10s in his two starts at Cog Hill since the redesign.
Adam Scott, $2.8m
The Australian has been on fantastic form since Steve Williams took his bag. Has four top 10s in six starts and ranks 60th in fairways, 35th in greens and second in the all-around on the PGA Tour.
John Senden, $1.1m
He’s quietly had a very good season and is carrying some steady form. Sits 4th in greens in regulation and 27th in driving accuracy.
Webb Simpson, $1.4m
The week off came at a good time for Webb after his win at the Deutsche Bank. There shouldn’t be any hangover this week so expect him to continue a fantastic run that has seen him win two of his last three events and finish inside the top 20 in nine of his last 10.
Camilo Villegas, $1.6m
Villegas is proving to be something of a playoff specialist. He’s finished T8-T11 here the last two years and has two top 10s in his last three starts. His scoring has tended to improve on the weekends so he should benefit from the no cut format.
