The Old Course is officially the world’s best golf course

The Old Course at St Andrews divides opinion among golfers. Some insist that the home of golf is the best course you’ll ever find, offering the truest example of the way the game was meant to be played. Others, whilst respectful of the history and heritage of the ancient links, feel that the course itself, judged on its own merits, would be a long way down the list of the world’s best golf courses.
The World Golf Awards, an annual celebration of the world’s finest golf courses and destinations, is in no doubt whatsoever. In their 2015 awards, the Old Course at St Andrews took home the title of World’s Best Golf Course for the second year running.
Having set that precedent, it’s hard to imagine how the Old Course could ever be dethroned. It’s not like they’re likely to add giant FootGolf holes to every green, and any other course would need a time machine to be able to compete in terms of history.
