Grant Horvat, Paige Spiranac, Rick Shiels among stacked field for first Internet Invitational

The field for the Internet Invitational has been announced with some of the world's best-known golf content creators and YouTube stars.

Barstool Sports have revealed the 48 players who will do battle for at least $1m in the Internet Invitational at Big Cedar Lodge in August.

If you love YouTube golf and influencers, then you are not going to want to miss this.

Barstool boss Dave Portnoy teased plans for a big YouTube golf event last year before announcing the Internet Invitational and the venue – Big Cedar Lodge in Ridgedale, Mo. – in a video on his own channel in May.

“People probably thought I forgot about it. Well, I didn’t,” Portnoy said. “I reached out to different people. I said, ‘Get me Fat Perez. Get me Robby Berger. Get me Joey Coldcuts. Get me these guys.’ And I did. So Barstool, Bob Does Sports, have combined forces. And August 12 to August 16, you are going to see the Internet Invitational, invite-only at Big Cedar Lodge, the Ozarks, Missouri. One of the great golf resort destinations in the world. We will be there.”

Portnoy, Barstool Sports, and Bob Does Sports are bankrolling the event, which is backed by Dunkin’ Donuts, and the stacked roster of stars who will play across the five days has been revealed.

The Internet Invitational field will be headlined by PGA Tour star Wesley Bryan, his brother George, golf’s biggest YouTuber and LIV Golf ambassador, Rick Shiels, Grant Horvat, Paige Spirinac, Fat Perez, Micah Morris, long-drive star Kyle Berkshire, the guys from GoodGood, Peter Finch, and loads more.

Here’s the 48 who will tee it up in the inaugural event.

Don’t expect this to be a ‘normal’ golf event. Portnoy has already promised, “This isn’t your mother’s golf tournament”.

“We’re not going to be quiet in a thing like this,” he said. “We want bad shots. We want you to feel the pressure. It’s going to be 30 to 50 to 60 of the most well-known golfers, celebrity athletes, internet people with big money, big stakes, and us in your ear chirping.”

The Internet Invitational is the latest in a host of events for YouTube stars and content creators. We’ve seen Creator Classic events on the PGA Tour and LIV Duels, where $250k was up for grabs. The prize fund here will be by far the biggest offered, although it remains to be seen what format the five-day event will take and how we can watch the action unfold.

The success of golf creators has seen some of the world’s best golfers dive into the world of social media, with Bryson DeChambeau chasing down Rick Shiels for the No.1 golf crown on YouTube, Phil Mickelson producing regular videos, and even Tommy Fleetwood and Ian Poulter starting their own channels.
