Who’s in the 2025 Open Championship field and what did they do to earn a spot at Royal Portrush? Here’s the full rundown…

The 2025 Open Championship field will once again feature a mixture of professionals and amateurs from all around the globe as the R&A continue with its bid for golf’s oldest major to also be its most diverse.

Where will the 2025 Open be played?

It’s like the old saying goes: You wait 68 years for an Open at Royal Portrush then two come along at once.

With the Claret Jug venturing outside the British Isles for the first time in 1951, when Englishman Max Faulkner won his sole major championship title, it returned to the Northern Ireland links in 2019 when Shane Lowry proved to be an incredibly popular winner.

Now, just six years later, the world’s finest are headed back to County Antrim for the 153rd battle for golf’s most famous trophy.

How do you qualify for The Open?

There are number of ways you can earn a spot in the 156-man field.

The majority of the field will be made up by exemptions dished out to professionals and amateurs– providing they retain their status up to and during the tournament – while there is also a series of qualifying events.

One of these is the Open Qualifying Series, which offers up to three places at 15 tour events in 11 countries.

There is also a series of qualifying events in the run up to the tournament.

Local Qualifying is open to any male professional golfer, any male amateur golfer with a handicap of 0.4 or lower, and any female golfer who finished in the top 5 and ties in the latest edition of any of the five women’s majors.

After that there is Final Qualifying, four simultaneous 36-hole, one-day events across the UK, with 12 spots in The Open up for grabs.
