2025 PGA Championship Preview: Everything you need to know ahead of Quail Hollow

The strongest field of the season assembles at Quail Hollow Golf Club, where Rory McIlroy targets back-to-back majors.

Only five times in the last 30 editions has the PGA Championship been won by a margin of more than two strokes. And you have to go back a decade to Jason Day’s three-shot victory at Whistling Straits to find the last time it happened.

Rory McIlroy’s eight-shot demolition job at Kiawah Island in 2014 was a massive outlier in an otherwise super competitive championship, touted by many to be the season’s strongest lineup.

With the Grand Slam under his belt, McIlroy goes in search of a third Wanamaker Trophy and second major on the bounce at Quail Hollow, a notoriously happy hunting ground for the Northern Irishman.

Equally buoyant, though, will be World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, fresh off the back of equalling the PGA Tour scoring record at TPC Craig Ranch for his first win of 2025. The game’s top two will battle it out against a further 27 major champions in this year’s field, including defending champion Xander Schauffele and a strong contingent of 16 LIV stars led by Bryson DeChambeau.
