2026 PGA Championship field: Who will tee up at Aronimink and how did they qualify?
Last updated:
Who’s in the 2026 PGA Championship field and what did they do to earn a spot as the Wanamaker Trophy returns to Aronimink? Here’s the full rundown…
The 2026 PGA Championship field is already starting to take shape! So let’s take a look at who’s in.
Where is the 2026 PGA Championship?
We’re back at Aronimink in Newtown Square, a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as the game’s biggest names look to be crowned the 108th PGA champion.
This will be the first men’s major at the Donald Ross layout since Gary Player lifted the Wanamaker Trophy here in 1962. In more recent years, the Women’s and Senior versions of PGA Championship have been held at Aronimink, as have a handful of PGA Tour events.
How do you qualify for the PGA Championship?
The PGA Championship is the only one of the four men’s majors which is explicitly for professional golfers only. (Though an amateur could technically qualify through several of the below criteria.)
It is also the only major that doesn’t grant automatic entry to the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking, though special exemptions are often handed to players in the top 100 who are not otherwise qualified.
The PGA of America, which administers the championship, also reserves 20 of the 156 spots for club pros. These are handed to the top 20 in the PGA Professional Championship, which is held a few weeks before the tournament.
There are currently 14 ways of getting into the PGA Championship. They are:
- All winners of any PGA Championship
- All winners of the last five Masters
- All Winners of the last five US Opens
- All winners of the last five Open Championships
- All winners of the last three Players Championships
- The top three on the Official World Golf Ranking International Federation Ranking List
- The current Senior PGA champion
- The top 15 (and ties) in the previous year’s PGA Championship
- The top 20 in the PGA Professional Championship (marked by a * in the table)
- The 70 leaders in PGA Championship points list (based on official money earned on the PGA Tour since the previous PGA Championship)
- The members of the most recent US and European Ryder Cup teams who are ranked OWGR top 100 as of one week before the start of the tournament
- Any tournament winner co-sponsored or approved by the PGA Tour since the previous PGA Championship
- Any additional players not included in categories 1-12 that the PGA of America deems worthy of an invite
- The first available players from the list of alternates (those below 70th place in official money standings) to make the field up to 156
Those already invited under category 13 include Joaquin Niemann and Sergio Garcia, who finished second and third in last year’s LIV Golf individual standings.
