Find out who has shot the best rounds in PGA Championship history?

We have been spoiled in recent years with some of the best rounds in PGA Championship history, but who tops the list of those to have gone low?

Until Valhalla hosted the tournament in 2024, 63 was the score to beat at the PGA Championship, with Bruce Crampton the first to set the standard at Firestone in 1975.

In the 50 years since, a host of future major winners have gone on to match Crampton’s feat, including Gary Player, Vijay Singh, Jose Maria Olazabal, Tiger Woods, and Brooks Koepka.

Twelve months ago, however, they were all eclipsed. Not once, but twice, with two stunning 62s to match the lowest score in major golf history.

Who has shot a 62 in the PGA Championship?

2024 – Xander Schauffele (-9, Valhalla)

Until 2017, no man had ever broken 63 in a Major. Branden Grace became the first to do so at The Open at Royal Birkdale. The South African shot an eight-under-par third round on the par 70 layout to get his name etched into golf history.

It took another six years for anyone else to match the feat. That man was Rickie Fowler at 2023’s US Open, but before he’d even had time to celebrate or for the ink to dry on his first-round scorecard, Xander Schauffele matched his fellow Californian’s score around the LA Country Club before going on to become the first player in history to achieve two 62s in majors, with his first-round effort at Valhall’s 2024 PGA Championship.

Xander Schauffele has made history as the first man to record two rounds of 62 in golf's Majors.

2024 – Shane Lowry (-9, Valhalla)

The Irishman took full advantage of moving day at the PGA Championship at Valhalla, as he produced the best putting round of his career to fire a blemish-free nine-under-par 62 to fire himself into contention for his second Major title.

While Lowry will be delighted with his performance, he was left rueing a missed opportunity to break the scoring record and make the first 61. The 37-year-old saw a 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole drop agonizingly low of the hole.

Shane Lowry celebrates a birdie on the 13th at Valhalla on his way to a record-equalling round of 62 at the PGA Championship.

Prior to Xander Schauffele and Shane Lowry’s Valhalla efforts, Bubba Watson was the last player to join the previous record-low 63 club. Five of that 17-strong group went on to lift the Wanamaker Trophy, including two of the last three 63s, both carded by Brooks Koepka in 2018 and 2019.
