This LIV star bought his putter from a Japanese golf store. Now he’s about to debut it at the PGA

Tom McKibbin couldn’t wait for Callaway to send him a new limited-edition Odyssey putter. So he went and bought it himself after LIV Golf Korea
Tom McKibbin is just like every other golfer. He’s impatient. He’s an equipment nerd. And he’s prepared to go to great lengths to get his hands on a club he’s been told he can’t have.
By now, you’ve probably heard that Odyssey have released a limited-edition version of the Toulon Las Vegas Prototype putter that Xander Schauffele used to win last year’s PGA and Open Championships.
The model – known as the Odyssey Milled Red Seven X – has been selling out across retail stores since launching on April 18, which might explain why there’s been a delay in getting it in the hands of tour stars.
McKibbin couldn’t wait for Callaway to send him one, so he took matters into his hands (quite literally) by visiting a Japanese golf shop on his way back from LIV Golf Korea. He paid for the putter out of his own pocket and has put it straight in the bag ahead of his PGA Championship debut this week.

“I wanted to try one with a milled face and I knew I was going home for a few days,” McKibbin told Golf.com. “So I figured I’d just get it and practice with it for a few days before the guys here sort me out.”
From a tech standpoint, the new Milled Seven X putter has a focus on soft feedback combined with additional forgiveness across the whole face. The number 7 shape is classic Odyssey, being one of the most popular shapes of putter in the modern game’s history, although this isn’t like the White Hot insert version you’re expecting.
While the fangs are still meant to improve MOI (Moment of Inertia) to achieve straighter putts from off-center strikes, extra effort has been made to improve feedback for players.

The face features the Deep Diamond pattern that Odyssey Toulon putters were known for and has been engineered to provide a deeper, richer sound that feels softer through impact, with a lower pitch being produced through vibration dampening.
The bumps and ridges of the Diamond Mill, cut from 303 Stainless Steel, provide fewer contact points for the ball to impact, with the channels diverting those unwanted vibrations that your ears might pick up. The pattern is also said to promote better forward role without changing your feeling of speed control.
The second noticeable difference is the finish, with a Candy Red standing out from the crowd of putters. Something of a throwback to the late 2010’s, where the Red putter phase reached its peak, there’s attention to detail here, with the colour bleeding over the top edge onto the face. It’s subtle, but effective, in how it reduces the harder lines between the face and crown, giving a further impression of softness to your eyes.

Completing the look, the Seven X comes with a blacked-out steel shaft, along with a Super Stroke Pistol 2.0 for the player’s comfort. This is installed into a plumber’s neck, or L-neck, that helps to keep the hands ahead of the ball through the stroke, via a full offset setup, without manipulating where the face is aligned to.
