Who will lead Team Europe at the 2027 Ryder Cup? Four golf legends are backing one man

Justin Rose is emerging as a top contender for Europe’s 2027 Ryder Cup captaincy, earning backing from some of golf’s most legendary names.
As the 2025 Betfred British Masters unfolds at The Belfry, Justin Rose has received a significant endorsement for the 2027 Ryder Cup captaincy.
Nick Faldo, Ian Woosnam, Sandy Lyle, and Sam Torrance have all publicly backed Rose to lead Team Europe in the tournament. Their support underscores his highly respected status within the European golfing community, and highlights the growing anticipation surrounding the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor.
Speculation is already mounting around who will captain the team, and Rose’s backing from the four Ryder Cup legends suggests momentum may be swinging in his favor.
Speaking to the press ahead of the British Masters, Sam Torrance didn’t hesitate to show his support the Englishman.
“Justin Rose,” he said, “he ticks all the boxes. I mean, that’s who it would be. And he’d be a wonderful man to play for.”

Nick Faldo agreed, emphasising just how decisive Rose has been with team decisions over the years, “Decision-makers. You see? That’s what you want. Decision-makers.”
Rose’s Ryder Cup record stands as a testament to his consistency and leadership under pressure. Since his debut in 2012, he has made six appearances, amassing 15.5 points and ranking 11th on Europe’s all-time list.
Ian Woosnam confirmed that Rose “would be a perfect choice to be the captain”, and Lyle pointed to his wealth of experience within the game.
“He’s played in America for many years, and he’s still doing well. And now he’s moved back to London, so he’s right in the headquarters of everything buzzing around. So I think he would be a good asset to the Ryder Cup.”
In recent years, Rose has demonstrated a return to top form. At the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon, he finished tied for second at 7-under par, just two strokes behind winner Xander Schauffele. The following year, at the 2025 Masters, Rose narrowly missed capturing his second major title, finishing tied for second after a dramatic playoff loss to Rory McIlroy.
These recent achievements, combined with his extensive Ryder Cup experience, and now a hall-of-fame endorsement panel practically saying ‘job done’, make him a compelling candidate for Europe’s 2027 Ryder Cup captaincy.
