Keegan Bradley makes shock call on Ryder Cup vice-captains

Keegan Bradley has made a surprise Ryder Cup vice-captain appointment.

Well, we’re not sure anyone expected that…

With Keegan Bradley still unsure whether or not he will be at the Ryder Cup as a captain, player, or both, he is slowly packing out his team of assistants ahead of the Bethpage showdown in September.

And while the previous appointments of Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker all make sense in one way or another, this latest addition comes as something of a surprise.

Mainly because he has zero Ryder Cup experience in any capacity.

That man is Gary Woodland.

The 2019 US Open champion played in that year’s Presidents Cup, where he added one and a half points to Team USA’s cause in a 16-14 victory over their International opponents.

And that, it seems, was enough for Bradley.

“I have an incredible amount of respect and admiration for Gary and all he has accomplished in this game,” Bradley told the Ryder Cup website. “As a major champion and someone who is still competing at a high level, he is well aware of the demands of performing on golf’s biggest stages.

“He will be a valuable leader for us over the coming months and throughout the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage.”

Five vice-captains? Looks like Bradley is preparing to put himself on the team.

European captain Luke Donald, in contrast, has so far named just three assistants: Edoardo Molinari, Thomas Bjorn and Jose Maria Olazabal.
