Dustin Johnson has won The Barclays, the first event of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup play-offs, by two shots from Matt Kuchar.

The tournament was shortened to 54 holes to end on Saturday because of the threat of Hurricane Irene and Johnson fired fantastic rounds of 66, 63 and 65 to top the leaderboard.

Johnson said: “I feel like I’ve played pretty well all year but just haven’t quite been able to get that win. The putter has been lacking a little bit. This week I finally holed some putts and it felt really good.”

Vijay Singh continued his return to form with a tie for third and English ace Brian Davis recorded a solid tied sixth. Luke Donald finished in a tie for 18th.

It was also a decent week for Ian Poulter and Ernie Els, who did enough to force their way into the top 100 and advance to this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship.
