Fantasy Golf: Volvo China Open preview

The 2012 Today’s Golfer Fantasy Golf game, in association with Your Golf Travel, lands on the European Tour for the first time this week at the Volvo China Open.

The tournament moves to Binhai Lake for the first time this year so previous form in this event isn’t such an important factor. The course was designed by Pete Dye and only opened last year but it’s already earned a wave of praise.

Here is the six-man Today’s Golfer team for the Volvo China Open:

Ian Poulter, $2.8m
After a slow start to the season, Poults is coming into form with a pair of top 10s in his last two starts, including 7th in The Masters. Ranked inside the top 10 for GIR and sand saves on the European Tour in 2011.

Francesco Molinari, $2.2m
The Italian beat a world class field to win the 2010 WGC – HSBC Champions in China. He’s finished in the top 20 in his last five starts worldwide.

Edoardo Molinari, $1.5m
The elder Molinari had a poor 2011 but he’s started this year well, with a couple of top 11s prior to The Masters and he made the cut at Augusta. Has proven himself as a great putter under pressure.

Nicolas Colsaerts, $1.4m
The defending champion, albeit at a different course, leads the European Tour in driving distance. Hasn’t missed a cut this year and finished T29 in Malaysia last week.

Shane Lowry, $1.4m
This young Irishman is coming into form with a run of T7-T17-T6 finishes. He’s a confidence player and he should have plenty of that heading into this week.

Soren Kjeldsen, $1.0m
The three-time European Tour winner looks to be regaining the form that secured those victories. His last three starts have yielded T5-T3-T16 results. Runner-up in this event last year.
